I love myths and legends.  Hibiscus  are one of my favorite flowers in part because of the legend that accompanies the flower. I love exploring places that have a story rather than places that just exist, like Devil's Tower in Wyoming.  They stimulate my imagination and draw me in to feel a part of the story. I watched the movie "The Red Tent" on Sunday, which is a telling (re-telling) of the story of Jacob's daughter Dinah with a fair amount of conjecture to fill in the empty places of Scripture. It piqued my interest and imagination, and filled in holes in ways that made sense.

When we tell our stories, personal or corporate, we pique people's interest.  We draw them in and humanize experiences.  It is especially important when dealing with Biblical stories because they can seem far away and removed from our society.  But if we can tell stories in which our experiences of God's love and faithfulness are personalized and updated I think it draws more people in.  Don't be afraid or reluctant to tell your stories.  They may be just what someone else needs to hear!

God of our past, our present, and our future, with you we have had many different experiences.  We tend to think of them as ours alone, or as not having any interest for other people.  But in many cases others are actually hungering to hear how you have impacted our lives.  Give us both grace and courage to share of ourselves so that others may be drawn to you.  Give us the right words, the right stories, at the right time so that you may be lifted up............
