No state or national leader would ignore a community 60 million people strong, the rural population of the United States. That is more than 7 times the population of New York City. Yet, rural, town and country Christians are often overlooked because we do not all live in the same community or state.
The United Methodist Rural Advocates is a voice for rural, town & country churches in the UM Church. With more than half of the United Methodist Churches worshiping less than 100 each week, our voice helps speak for many of these communities and their pastors. We listen, share our concerns, and offer solutions to obstacles that hinder small membership churches from becoming all they can be for Christ in their communities and world.
With over 90% of the U.S. delegates to Jurisdictional and General Conference coming from large membership churches, or district and conference offices, it is vital we advocate for the churches with little to no voice or vote.
Please join us for our Legislative Consultation on Tues., Oct. 2 – Friday, Oct. 5th in Minneapolis, MN. Learn what is going well in rural ministry. Network with others.
